Traditional colours and directions of the five phases
Common correspondences are: wood—east—qing; fire—south—red; earth—centre—yellow; metal—west—white; water—north—black. In historical colour terminology, qing can include parts of what we now call blue and green; it should not be confined to one exact colour code.
These are cultural classifications and symbolic associations. Historical texts, ritual systems and applications may differ. The correspondences do not demonstrate that a colour attracts wealth, treats illness or prevents misfortune. In clothing, gifts or interiors, they can help explain traditional Chinese colour and directional imagery.
Introductory cultural reference, not personal fortune-telling, medical or investment advice. Symbolism expresses a wish, not a guaranteed effect.
