Tai Sui: historical terminology and folk belief

Tai Sui has several meanings in traditional astronomy, calendars and folk belief. Its historical background relates to ideas such as year-recording by the Year Star, or Jupiter. However, not every Tai Sui custom can be equated directly with Jupiter in modern astronomy. Later traditions also developed Tai Sui deities and associated annual practices.

“Offending Tai Sui,” honouring Tai Sui and related rites belong to particular customs and beliefs. Their rules vary by region, religious tradition and school; they are not scientifically established forecasts of disaster. This site can explain these concepts, but does not infer illness, financial loss or accidents from a zodiac sign, or use fear to sell paid remedies.
