Qian ☰: three yang lines and the image of heaven

Here Qian means the three-line trigram ☰. From bottom to top its lines are yang, yang, yang: all three are solid. Its traditional image is heaven, and its quality is often described as vigour.

In the usual Later Heaven arrangement, Qian is northwest. In the Earlier Heaven system transmitted by Shao Yong in the Song dynasty, it is south. Do not mix these systems. The six-line Qian hexagram has Qian below and Qian above; it shares the name but is a different level of structure. Qian can offer an image for self-development and sustained action, without implying that buying a Qian-patterned accessory guarantees power or success.
